HIGH ST. HISTORY
Built in the 1930's, and used by railroad workers and their families, High Street Market has become a historic landmark of SLO and a refreshing revival of what a good old fashioned, neighborhood market truly is. From the brightly colored 1940's Eskimo Pie mural adorning the outside of the building, to the vintage interior full of tins and memorabilia from the first half of the century, High St. Deli gives modern meaning to old fashioned ideals.

Owned for 7 years by local Randy (Doobie) Coates, High St. Deli is tucked away just outside of downtown on the corner of High and Carmel Streets. Offering huge sandwiches, killer soups and salads from scratch, and homemade Doobie Snacks (an eat-your-heart-out cookie bar) if you visit the deli you'll run into Doobie and his pleasant staff singing along to great music and chatting with a diverse, laidback, and loyal clientele. Boasting the best sandwiches in town and a 420 special (perfect for a late afternoon snack) once you experience High St. deli you'll be hooked. In a world of chain restaurants and corporate commerce, High Street Deli and Market breathes fresh air into good down home cooking.
